Workshops in Collaboration with UFORGE Gallery
UFORGE Gallery cultivates a creative, inclusive arts community with assignment-based, non-juried exhibitions and events.
Each UFORGE Gallery workshop pairs you with a local artist and includes a gallery fee that allows you to submit one piece to any UFORGE exhibition, with a First Thursdays reception, even possible reviews and sales.
The workshops take place at UFORGE Gallery, 767 Centre St, Jamaica Plain, just around the corner from the Eliot School. Download directions. (pdf) Register directly with UFORGE Gallery.
Pronto Plate Lithography
Combine text and image with a laser printer to create polyester lithography plates. These “pronto plates” can be further manipulated with sharpies and ballpoint pens before rolling them up with ink and running them through a press.
The first session will introduce you to the lithography printing process. Upon registration, you will be encouraged to email an 8.5" x 11" black-and-white jpg to the instructor. Your file may be text, image or a combination of the two. You will use this image in your first pronto plate. Once you have a feel for the process, in the second session you will develop your skills with a second image. You will leave the workshop with an edition (or two) of prints that can be hand-colored, collaged together, or framed as they are.

Picassiette Mosaics
Picassiette mosaic art is labeled contemporary to distinguish it from centuries-old methods and materials.. Almost any durable material, from broken ceramics to various found objects, can be used. You are encouraged to incorporate and recycle unused or discarded materials that you find.
Gain an introduction to this useful and practical skill for creating fine art images and sculpture, as well as household and yard items. All levels are welcome, from beginners to those with some art and/or mosaic experience. You will create a 10 inch x 10 inch piece, and leave with the skills to create mosaics on your own.

Assemblages with Found Objects
Much like a good or bad dream, an assemblage is often made up of unrelated components (in this case found objects) that together create an alternative “world” that can be both familiar and enigmatic. Create an assemblage that reflects your own dreams, peaceful, frightening or mystifying.
The first session will introduce you to the process of making the assemblage. Talk about the items you would like to use for your work and then start your assemblage. Then receive both practical and aesthetic advice as you construct your new work of art.
