Focus on Color

Focus on colors – mixing them, juxtaposing them, understanding them and playing with them. Exercises with the color wheel, paint and other media will strengthen your ability to use color in any kind of art and design.

We will be using gouache in this class, as its colors mix 'true.' (Oil is also acceptable, but acrylics will not be used.)

Please bring to the first class:

  • Gouache in the following colors:

       • lemon yellow
       • cadmium yellow
       • cadmium red
       • alizarin crimson
       • burnt umber
       • burnt sienna
       • dioxanine purple
       • pthalo blue or Prussian blue
       • ultramarine blue
       • titanium white

  • Brushes of your choice
  • Watercolor paper
  • Pencil and sketchbook
  • Rags and/or paper towels
  • Glass container for water
