Basic Woodcarving
Using basic tools and techniques, learn hand-held carving, including shaping, detailing and whittling. Understand basic approaches to full round and relief mode, paving the way to create decorative elements for furniture and small sculptural objects. Choose a small project to finish in the workshop or at home.
Bring your own tools (see below) or purchase a kit and wood in class.

Before entering the wood shop, read about SAFETY.
Materials
If you have the following kinds of wood, you may bring them to class to carve:
- bass wood
- poplar
- mahogany
- cedar
Otherwise, we will provide pieces in class for a fee.
If you have your own woodcarving tools(basic carving knife, 3 blades), bring them to class. We will cover sharpening, and you can sharpen your own tools. If you do not have your own tools, we will provide them in class and make them available for purchase if you wish.
