Upcoming Classes

Fall into a new craft, check out upcoming workshops and short classes for adults with start dates throughout the season. Make Straw Cloches & Fedoras. Carve some wood. Transfer photos to paper, fabric or wood to create dynamic mixed-media artworks. Go wild with Felted Forms. 10/14 Lantern Making

Create colorful lanterns from soda bottles and tissue paper ready to light with candles for Jamaica Plain’s annual Lantern Parade. Leave kids and pets at home, bring snacks and friends. Open-house format. Suggested donation: $5 per lantern to benefit Spontaneous Celebrations. At the Eliot Schoolhouse, 24 Eliot St., Jamaica Plain. Learn more on our Events page.

10/16 Professional Development for Art Teachers

Our PD workshops this year focus on social, emotional and behavioral health and wellbeing through art making for teachers and students. The first of our 3 fall workshops focuses on best practices working at partnership sites: integrating, communicating, feeling confident and supporting students in your art classroom. Open to all teachers, teaching artists, parents and other interested adults. 10/19 Mass Independent Comics Expo

We’re sponsoring MICE again this year, a free weekend event showcasing the best in new and local comics, including workshops for kids and adults. Admission free, all are welcome. Held at Lesley University’s University Hall, 1815 Massachusetts Avenue in Porter Square, Cambridge. Expo hours: Saturday, Oct 19, 10am–6pm, Sunday, Oct 20, 11am–5pm. Details here.

10/20 Artists' Talk: New Urban Monuments

Meet our 2019 Artist in Residence L'Merchie Frazier and Teen Bridge participants as they talk about their work investigating historic and contemporary conceptions of public monuments. Sunday, Oct 20, 3pm.
