I wanted to learn new skills and get more experience working with tools. I didn't have access to shop classes or anything like that growing up and don't have a ton of experience with anything "handy", so I'm so thankful to have an opportunity like this.  I loved getting to learn about new tools and machines, and getting to use them pretty quickly.  It was great to have a specific project where we applied lots of different skills throughout the process that were totally new to me, and the class was geared very nicely towards beginners. I also loved learning so much about a variety of topics like wood quality and milling, tool maintenance, and other expertise that the instructor, Eric, had to offer - I learned so much just chatting with him!  Most of the students (6 of 8) were women and I thought that was pretty neat - I think it speaks to the importance of this class and how much the Eliot School makes this kind of material accessible to the community.
